The Leisure Society emerged in 2009 with an Ivor Novello nominated song, a critically acclaimed debut album and well received live performances. The band was formed by Nick Hemming who was one time member of 1990s band ‘She Talks to Angels’. The band also included actor Paddy Considine (24 Hour Party People, Hot Fuzz) and film director Shane Meadows (A Room for Romeo Brass, This is England). Hemming has also contributed music to several of Meadow’s films.

The core of Leisure Society came about when Hemming teamed up with Christian Hardy. Other musicians have mostly been drawn from the Wilkommen Collective, a group of musicians from Brighton. The band’s first single ‘Last of the Melting Snow’ drew immediate critical acclaim. The song was inspired by events surrounding an ex with whom he had hoped to rekindle their relationship only to find out she was about to emigrate with her new partner. The song was short listed for an Ivor Novello award.

The success of Leisure Society has finally enabled Nick Hemming to give up his day job in a fabric company and work full time in music. The band’s music is packed full of infectious melodies, fine arrangements and most of all truly excellent song writing. The band looks set to reach a much wider audience in the next 6 months and are likely to have a broad appeal both at home and abroad.

The band’s highly acclaimed debut album ‘Sleeper’ is due to be re-released in October and the band will be performing at this year’s SWN festival in Cardiff 24th October.
